Highlights of the 77th Session of the Texas Legislature

- Worked with community leaders and TXDoT to secure $2.3 million in enhancement funds for Gladewater Mainstreet project and $1.3 million in enhancement funds for Longview’s Grace Creek Hike and Bike Trail.
- Worked with community leaders and Texas Department of Economic Development to secure funding of $540,000 for Smart Jobs for Dana Corporation. Dana Corporation was the only company out of ten eligible throughout the state to receive the funding.
- $20 million appropriation for UT-Tyler engineering school and $10 million appropriation for UT Health Science Center at Tyler
- Expanded 2-way local calling to Longview and Tyler from Kilgore exchange implemented upon voter approval. Expanded calling became effective Summer 2002.
- Introduced Rural Republican Redistricting Plan allowing for 86 republicans to be elected to Texas House
- HB 1776 Co-authored legislation that establishes Celebrate Freedom week in public schools for grades 3-12 to study the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, in their historical context.
- HB 815 Co-authored legislation that authorizes governor to present Texas flag to families of fallen peace officers
- HB 3695 Creation of a new Gregg County Court at Law contingent upon voter approval
- HB 3469 Expanding the jurisdiction of the Gregg County Court at Law to hear all state jail felony cases except for capital murder cases.
- HB 3433 Designating the Kilgore Relief Route as the Charles K. Duvall Memorial Highway
- HB 2436 Authorizing and funding the Bureau of Economic Geology to perform an enhanced field characterization study of the East Texas Oil Field. Bill was vetoed by Governor Perry
