Longview, Texas- Today, The Honorable Tommy Merritt announced that over 100 individuals in East Texas have donated to his campaign in less than a month. “I’d like to thank all contributors and look forward to continuing this momentum further into 2012. This is the first in a long line of victories for our community and our campaign. I was born and raised in East Texas and always worked hard in the Legislature to represent East Texas. I look forward to serving again.”
Merritt went on to say, “It’s incredibly encouraging that we’ve had such broad support right here at home in House District 7 in such a short time,” noting that the filing only reflected twenty five days of fundraising. “I was approached by citizens in our community and asked to run because people felt that the district was being serviced by a politician, and not being served by a Representative.” |

Hon. Tommy Merritt Announcement Remarks |
|

After careful thought, consultations with my family, and listening to the voters of District 7, today, I am declaring my candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative.
I was born and raised in East Texas. I attended our public schools and have had the privilege of living in East Texas for over 63 years. Aside from my family life, my greatest honor has been serving as your State Representative.
Many of the leaders in our community have approached me because I have always worked for the citizens of District 7 and not promoted my own personal agenda. For years, I have worked effectively with our local city and county officials to deliver jobs, veterans services, funding for transportation projects and equipment for our law enforcement agencies. I have always believed in pushing for efficient, high quality education in order to prepare East Texans for the jobs of the future.
This announcement begins the process of conversing with citizens in House District 7. Over the next thirteen weeks, I will be meeting with the voters in every corner of this district about the wide range of issues that matter to our community and look forward to again representing our East Texas values in Austin.
Thank you, Tommy Merritt |
